Freelance Content Creator
About The Dream Opportunity:
We are a global nonprofit that connects underprivileged and low-income students to corporate career pathways. Through partnerships with J.P. Morgan Chase, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery, and more, we deliver life-changing career exposure and opportunities.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Freelance Content Producer / Cinematographer to join our creative team on a per-event basis. This role combines hands-on production setup, live content capture (photo and video), and basic A/V support at live events.
If you’re highly adaptable, technically savvy, have experience in A/V as well as videography, and are passionate about capturing dynamic, meaningful content in real-world environments, we want to hear from you.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Pre-Event Preparation
- Pick up production equipment from designated locations prior to assigned events.
- Clean, maintain, and fully charge all equipment (cameras, lights, speakers, laptops, hotspots, walkie-talkies) before event day.
- On-Site Event Execution
- Travel within your city/region to live events held at schools, corporate offices, convention centers, or other venues.
- Set up and break down basic A/V equipment, including:
- Wireless speakers (for music)
- iPads (for music and light control)
- Light stands and lights
- Laptops for presentations and video playback
- Wireless microphones
- Walkie-talkies and radios
- WiFi hotspot devices
- Coordinate with external A/V technicians (when available) to ensure smooth A/V setup and execution.
- Content Capture
- Capture high-quality photo and video footage throughout the event following a provided creative brief and shot list.
- Conduct brief testimonials and interviews with students, clients, and corporate partners using pre-prepared questions.
- Post-Event Media Management
- Upload all raw photo and video files to our Dropbox/server immediately after each event.
- No editing or retouching required.
- Role Expectations
- Event days are typically 8 to 12 hours long, but may occasionally run longer depending on production needs.
- Early start times are common — anywhere from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM depending on the event schedule.
- You must be comfortable working full days while remaining fully attentive, proactive, and responsible for the entire duration.
- Professionalism, focus, and teamwork are essential from pre-event setup through post-event breakdown.
- Trip Length
- Assignments may range from single-day trips to multi-day trips (2–3 days) depending on event location.
- All travel logistics (flights, hotels, ground transportation) will be coordinated in advance by The Dream Opportunity’s management team.
- You will always be paired with a Tour Leader for travel and event execution, operating as a team on site.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional ability to intuitively capture impactful photo and video content in real-time.
- Proficiency in operating DSLR or mirrorless cameras, basic lighting setups, microphones, and stabilizers.
- Familiarity with moderate A/V systems and troubleshooting (wireless audio, speakers, hotspots, presentation tech, computers, basic audio board).
- Highly organized, reliable, and able to work independently in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with event leads and external partners.
- Ability to lift, transport, and set up production equipment safely.
- Valid driver's license required — must be comfortable driving large SUVs (such as a Chevy Suburban) when transporting production equipment (vehicles will be pre-rented by The Dream Opportunity).
- Valid passport required — occasional domestic and/or international travel may be requested.
- Ability to travel by air within the region, primarily between major West Coast cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, and others as needed.
- Owning a professional DSLR or video camera is a plus, but not required.
Compensation:
- Daily Rate: $300–$1000 USD per event, depending on skill level and experience.
